Additional modules can be installed without any tools in just a couple of minutes. They can be attached at the left or right side of the seat by replacing the cross tubes with longer ones, if necessary, or outside of the wheels by means of the extension tubes inserted into the cross tubes (fast connection), or in other locations.
The variety of the additional modules is virtually unlimited. So far we came up with these ideas:
1. Electric drive.
This additional module consists of a frame tube with two channels, motor with controller, gear, batteries and controls. The module can be mounted onto the cross tube by four clamps, the output drive shaft is connected to the shaft of the wheel (or both wheels) via an intermediate shaft through overrunning clutch (freewheel).
Accelerator arched lever is fixed onto the steering column at the front side of the steering wheel.
2. Drive with a gas engine.
It consists of a frame with two channels, engine, fuel tank, chain reducer and controls. The module can be mounted onto the cross tube by four clamps, the output drive shaft is connected to the shaft of the wheel (or both wheels) via an intermediate shaft through overrunning clutch (freewheel). Accelerator arched lever is fixed onto the steering column at the front side of the steering wheel.
3. Child seat with pedal drive.
It consists of a frame with two channels, a foot platform, drive shaft assembly, seat and longitudinal pipe with pedals. The module also can be used without mounting the chain drive - as a passenger. The long tube with a hitching device can be connected at the back of the main module instead of longitudinal pipe - then the module is used for the building of a passenger or driving trailer.
For long trips on the open stretch of a road the wind force can be utilized. The design of MRT allows for the installation of a SAIL:
- firstly, the longer cross tubes need to be used to assemble a wide trike that is resistant to tipping over.
- secondly, the sail can be installed not at the center, but on the right or left module. This allows to increase the width of the sail without going beyond the dimensions of the trike;
- thirdly, the mast can be extended lower than the fixture, thus maximizing the efficiency of the sail.
- finally, you can shift the heaviest middle module with the driver to the right or left, creating an additional counterbalance in case of a strong wind.
The angle of the sail is fixed by a crosspiece attached to the cross tube.
Basket for shopping or for a dog can be mounted at both, the inside and outside of the trike (fast connection).
6. Shopping bag on the forks.
Forks may be installed onto the rear upper cross tube. Special bag with loops hangs on the forks. A few other things can be carried on the forks - tourist luggage, basket, or even a billboard.
7. Carriage platform.
Mounted onto the bottom beam and fixed to the upper. To construct a cargo trailer, the platform can be attached to another trike with a long pipe with a hitch.
The stand is comprised of a tube with a platform. It is fixed onto the middle module and clamped to the upper cross tube by cables. It can be used for a short distance ride with passenger standing up behind the driver.
9. Trailer parts.
For serial connection of two or more trikes, instead of the front part of the middle module, the trailer module is installed (with pedals for the second driver, or with just a foot platform for a passenger).
10. Additional middle module.
For making a two-driver vehicle, the second middle module with a seat, steering wheel and front wheel can be installed. For the rigidity of the vehicle, the front side of middle modules are connected together by a front cross tube; for the synchronous turning of the front wheels they are connected by cross-link.
11. One-wheel driving trailer.
Simple and lightweight module, having channel and universal joint on front, is attaching to trike by clamps. The second driver is using the same seat with two-point spring suspension.
12. Rain canopy.
In the front of the trike we placed an extra channel for a front cross tube.
The front cross tube and the top-rear cross tube are connected by a pair of bended elastic rods on the sides. Canopy is stretched over the rods.
13. Aerodynamic shell.
Fixed onto the front and rear cross tubes with left and right modules (wheels) still on the outside.
14. Fenders to rear wheels.
They can be inserted into the ends of cross tubes. Easy to put on and off.
15. Modules mounted onto the seat.
The frame of the driver's seat has several open tubes, in which some additional modules can be inserted.
- A seat for a baby.
Attachable at the rear of the driver’s seat, or side of the seat. The springs of the driver’s seat can be replaced by more rigid - both in the first case, and one - in the second. It is possible to install two or even three seats. Suspended together with the driver, the baby will be traveling with superb comfort.
Inserted into the front openings of the top tubes. Moves smoothly with the seat.
- The armrests.
It is always convenient to place elbows onto the armrests. Using the bayonet connection, armrests can be set and removed quickly, or recline when the driver is boarding. Due to the fact that one arm can be free, some controls can be set onto the front of the armrests – such as derailleur shifters or a light switch.
- Tool bags.
These small bags can be easily attached by bayonets on both sides of the seat. Many small size goods can be easily transported (extra batteries for lights, drinking water, lunch, a camera, cell phone, documents, and so on).
- Rear-view mirror.
The mirror can be inserted by a bayonet into the upper tube. The mirror is attached to the suspended seat, so it does not shake.
The lights can be attached to the upper tube of the seat.
